![]() ![]() The Dalai Lama to visit South America and United States in April 1999 NEW YORK, March 25,1999 (Office of Tibet, NY) -- His Holiness the Dalai Lama, spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet, will visit Brazil, Argentina and Chile from 4th to 15th April. From there He will make a short visit to Miami in Florida on 16th and 17th of April. This is the second visit of the Dalai Lama to the South America. Earlier His Holiness visited several countries in the region, including Costa Rica, Mexico and Nicaragua. From April 4 to 7, His Holiness will be in Brazil, where he will give teachings and talks on Universal Human Values, The Nature of Mind and Interdependence in the Modern World, Universal Responsibility & Peaceful Living. On 7th His Holiness will address the National Congress of Brazil. While in Argentina from 8th to 11th April, His Holiness will give public talks and address members of the National Congress, human rights groups and students organizations. His Holiness will receive the award of Professor Emeritus from the University of Buenos Aires. From April 11 to 15, His Holiness will be in Chile. He will give teachings on compassion and lecture on environmental issues and the problems of mankind. On 14th His Holiness will address the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress. While in Miami, His Holiness will be presented the Doctor of Theology, honoris causa, by Florida International University. His Holiness will meet with new Special Coordinator for Tibet Mrs. Julia Taft, who succeeded Mr. Gregory B. Craig on January 20,1999. According to Secretary Albright, Mrs. Taft's "central objective" as Tibet Coordinator "is to promote substantive dialogue between the Chinese government and the Dalai Lama and His representatives." His Holiness the Dalai Lama remains committed to the process of dialogue as the means to resolve the problem in Tibet.
